The First President's Thoughts on Christianity

"We are persuaded that good Christians will always be good citizens, and that where righteousness prevails among individuals the nation will be great and happy. Thus while just government protects all in their religious rights, true religion affords to government its surest support."

George Washington

Part of the genius of the founding fathers was in their understanding of Christianity. They understood that Christianity does not take away the rights of others. They also understood that Christianity (Washington referred to it as "true religion") was that which made for good citizens and which gave  government its surest support. Washington also firmly believed that it would be righteous behavior that would make America both great and happy.

And he was right! America not only has been a great nation by just about every conceivable metric, it has also experienced a contentment and happiness that few nations, regardless of era, have enjoyed.

So if Washington was right in his belief that a nation populated by practicing Christians would be happy, great, and supportive of government, why are our current leaders rejecting this notion today? Could it be that they sincerely do not approve of the righteous standards associated with true religion, so they can never admit that Christianity has any benefits at all?

Regardless of the non-believers and history deniers within our present day elite, America has illustrated an important lesson for all who would care to learn: When we are righteous, we are great. When we practice the true religion of Christianity, we are happy. If you want a good citizen, look for a good Christian.

And while we are genuinely concerned about the loss of the very ideals that has made America great in the past, we can always get that greatness and sense of contentment back - we just need to repent. The only question is will we see that solution before its too late? Consider the advice that God gave to another great nation almost 2,700 years ago - it's still great advice today!

"This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: 'In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength,

but you would have none of it.'"

Isaiah 30:15

Have You Given Up On America?

We have this day restored the Sovereign to Whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun, let His kingdom come.

Samuel Adams, July 4th 1776

Perhaps, you have given up. Perhaps you have looked at the state of our nation, and have thought that we have gone too far. Perhaps you have done your part in the past, voting for men who said they would do one thing, only to have them turn around and do the opposite.

Perhaps you have looked at evil laws passed that make all Americans pay for abortion under the guise of helping the poor get healthcare. Perhaps you have grown weary of people practicing their hatred for other people, under the claim of diversity. Perhaps you have seen a mockery made of marriage and are concerned. Perhaps you have watched our foolish leaders heap debt upon debt, in order to enrich themselves and their cronies, and wonder how your children and grandchildren will live under the crushing burden of this debt.

Perhaps you are tired of seeing pornography on everything from the evening news to the commercials during our children's morning cartoons. Perhaps you look at the sexual perversion, the fiscal insanity. the moral decay, and you are angry. Perhaps you have considered the corruption of many of our politicians and judges and just think that it is too late. Perhaps you have watched as our very leaders arm terrorists overseas and invite them to live freely in our very nation and you are outraged. Perhaps you have tried to share your concern with friends and associates only to see that concern received with derision, irritation or apathy, and you are on the verge of just giving up.

I share your concern, but if you think that it is too late, you are wrong! You see, we serve a powerful God, and despite many of our schools and nearly all of our universities teaching that there is no God, that He is merely an unnecessary crutch for superstitious fools, they are wrong.

He exists!

And our God is ready to help all of those who will repent of their evil and turn back to Him. I believe that He helped our founders win a blood-filled revolution against evil men who had forgotten that He was Sovereign, not them, and I believe that He can help us win a bloodless revolution today, if we will only put Him back in His rightful position.

The founders understood this principle, and we must too. It is simply this:

It begins with you!

You must first restore God and Christ as the rightful Sovereigns of your life. You must then restore them as the rightful Sovereigns of your family. Next, all righteous families must restore God and Christ as the rightful Sovereign of the church. Then, and only then, can we restore Them as the rightful Sovereigns of our nation.

The founders did not fight a revolution in order to seize power for themselves, their lawyers, or their buddies. No, they risked their honor, their fortunes, and their very lives in order to restore power to God. They did not do this, as some will mistakenly claim, in order to establish a Theocracy. They did it because they knew that God had to be honored in order to establish a country that was worth fighting for.

How about you?

Righteous exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. Proverbs 14:34, NIV

Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength... Isaiah 40:31, NIV

It is time to seek the LORD... Hosea 10:12, NIV

God Made America Great... What Will Happen if We Abandon Him?

"Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their leaders."

Chief Justice John Jay, 1816

I am continually amazed at how many of our modern day "intellectuals" deny the intent of the founders to have a nation that was directed by God. Many of the original colonies actually forbade anyone who was not a Christian the right to hold public office. Our early leaders prayed, they read their Bibles, and they attended worship. We were not a nation led by "Deists" as some would later claim; rather, we were a nation founded by people who believed in both the Father and the Son.

And the first Supreme Court Justice let the whole world know that he believed it was God who gave us our choice of rulers, and that it was in our interest to prefer Christian rulers. There is nothing ambiguous about his statement, and there was nothing ambiguous about the results.

Down through the years, at least until recent times, America has preferred Christian leaders. Further, Americans preferred to live as Christians, to work with a Christian ethic, and to influence the world with Christian ideals.

And it worked... at least until the Supreme Court forget Who was really in charge and began to remove God from the public square. Starting with a ruling in 1946 (immediately after America resoundingly won the last war that it has ever won) and continuing on to the present day, the Supreme Court of America has systematically attempted to remove the influence of God from schools, from the military, from our government, and from our public lives in general.

How are we doing now? Now we are releasing our enemies during times of war, opening up our borders to criminals, bringing in people with deadly diseases to infect our population, debauching our currency, perverting our children, letting men use women's restrooms, and loudly trumpeting our breaking of our nation's ties to Jesus.

How's that working out for us?

Maybe it's time to go back to the principles of the men and women who led us to greatness, and let those who openly despise America relocate to the Godless nations they so admire. Maybe it's time to not only prefer Christians for our leaders again, but to also prefer the Christ they follow. Would you like to hear another quote from an era when Christ reigned supreme and America actually worked? Me too!

"God governs the world, and we have only to do our duty wisely, and leave the issue to Him." John Jay

"Here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man." King Solomon, Eccl. 12:13-14

Think, America

To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical. Thomas Jefferson

I vastly prefer to write about the happy side of Christianity over the duties of the Christian life. It is easier to dwell on the pleasant things. For this reason, most people tend to tune out controversy and conflict - why bother ourselves?

Occasionally, however, Christian duty demands thoughtful reflection on things in the world around us. I believe that recent events require at least some thought.

The other day, our President surrounded himself with children and proclaimed the need for stricter gun controls. The recent violence at Sandy Hook where 20 kindergartners were brutally murdered, necessitated these changes, we were told. The picture of these children near our President was designed to draw our sympathy, to arouse our ire, and to stimulate that protective nature in all caring people. It was designed, I believe, to produce powerful emotions to prompt the American people to support the current administration's gun controls.

You and I will draw our own conclusions as to what needs to be done - reasonable people do this, and sometimes reasonable people disagree. If you disagree with what I am about to write, then I respect you for it. But I believe a few things need to be considered:

First, Americans kill 20 preschoolers every eight minutes. When he was a Senator, The President, (the one who surrounded himself with children while signing 23 executive orders to protect our children), voted for abortion at every opportunity. Early stage abortion, late stage abortion, partial birth abortion - you name it and he couldn't get enough of it. He even voted at one point for doctors to not render aid to children accidentally born in a botched abortion. The body, the language went, was to be left alone until "limp".

Think, America, does this sound like a man concerned about the well-being of children?

Second, this President proposed, campaigned for, and signed legislation for a health care bill. He initially promised that Americans who did not support abortion would not have to pay for abortion - not ever! Since then, he has attempted to require health care professionals to take part in abortions against their will, to force some religious institutions to pay for abortions against their will, to force righteous companies to fund abortion against their will AND TO FORCE EVERY TAX PAYER TO FUND ABORTIONS FOR EVERYONE WHO CANNOT PAY FOR THEIR OWN ABORTIONS, against our will.

Think, America, does this sound like a President with concern for the citizens that he has been elected to serve?

Third, our President, while surrounded by children, has decided to limit the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America - the very one he swore to uphold and defend. The 2nd Amendment was instituted by a group of men who realized that citizens might be in the position someday to have to defend themselves against tyrannical leaders. The reason these men thought that might be a good idea was because they were in that exact position.

Look again at Jefferson's quote: It is the accurate statement, not the edited one that has gained recent popularity. Look at this quote and think, America, for this was the man who authored the largest part of the Declaration of Independence. In that document he indicated in the clearest possible terms that it would be the right and duty for men to take action against tyrannical rulers.

I do not want you to misunderstand the purpose of this article - it is not a call to arms. Rather, this is a call to think: Why would people seek to limit the Constitution? It cannot be to save children - about 100,000 have been slaughtered in our abortion parlors since that terrible day in December - so what does this mean? Why would our President and his handlers surround themselves with children while at the same time seeking to water down a Constitutional principle?

You can answer these questions better than I, but I do believe it is time for us to begin thinking about some subjects that most of us would prefer not to think about. It is time to think, America, before America changes forever into a nation whose leaders do all the thinking for us, and before those who dare to think are "discouraged" from doing so.

It's time to think, America. And, dear Christian brothers and sisters, this means you!

No one stops to think...

Isaiah 44:19, NIV

Faith and Liberty

"Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith." Alexis de Tocqueville

"Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard from the word of Christ." the Apostle Paul

Like many of you, I have watched with sadness over the last several decades as our American liberties have been taken away, one by one. I want you to know that I don't so much blame those who are in charge of government for taking away these liberties, as I do those within the church, for I know that government is derived from those who will do their bidding. In other words, I believe the greatness of America has diminished because the faithfulness of her Christian people has waned.

Those who were alive during the Great Depression and World War II understood that liberty was tied to faith. It was neighbors who took care of neighbors during the depression era. And, while government had a role, it was nothing compared to the part that Christian charity played. Then when the war came and Americans realized that they could not stand idly by while a tyrant tried to take over the world, the entire country got behind the war effort.

And as strange as it is for some today to understand, America prayed for help in winning the war. They did not do so because they thought that our God was a Deity of War, they did so because they knew that America had a righteous cause, so they had the right to call on God for help.

They did so because liberty depends on faith, not the other way around. Too many people think that our nation is great because we have the liberty to exercise our faith, but they have the cart before the horse. America is great and enjoys her liberty because America was established first and foremost as a nation of people who acknowledged and depended on God.

So for those who are bemoaning our loss of freedom to practice our faith, thinking somehow that faith comes from liberty, please think about the truth of the quotations above. For liberty has always come from morality, and the only source of morality that has ever mattered is faith. And, the only source of true faith is Christ.

Never forget that our liberties have often been purchased with the blood of patriots, and that the source of true liberty was purchased with the blood of Christ. If we want these liberties that we so cherish to be restored, we are first going to have to restore our faith.

Have you read your Bible today?

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."

Galatians 5:1, NIV
