"For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ."
Galatians 3:26-27, RSV
This one is pretty plain: In Christ we are sons of God through faith! How do we get "into Christ"? This same passage states that we are baptized into Christ.
The Bible has no other teaching on this. Now I know that many want to baptize infants before they can have faith, but this does not meet the requirement above. I know that many want to insist that we are saved only by grace, but the Bible never says that we are saved by grace alone.
Many want to call baptism a work, but the Bible never says that baptism is a work - only men would ever be so bold...
The fact is that grace is God's part. Our part is to be a child of God through faith, and to clothe ourselves with Christ. How do we do that? The verse above is very plain.
"Now when they heard this, they said to Peter and the other apostles, 'Brethren, what shall we do?'"
Acts 2:37, RSV
Do you remember what Peter said in reply?
