A Matter of Principle
In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. Thomas Jefferson
Have you ever wondered why the Constitution has proven to be such an enduring standard? In part, it was because of the principles of the men who wrote and supported it. America had just come out of an all or nothing conflict with England. As Franklin said, they would all have to hang together, or they would hang separately. And, hang together they did. These young Americans overcame incredible odds because of their determination to stand like a rock for what they believed to be right.
We are at a similar moment in history, in my opinion. A law was recently passed that will force all Americans to take part in abortion. That law went into effect on August 1st of 2012. All women who cannot afford birth control services, including abortion, will now have those services paid for by our tax dollars. For so many it is a point of little importance, so they will just swim with the current on this one. For others, like myself, it is a matter of principle. It is my intent to do everything in my power to overturn this evil that has descended upon our nation.
No, I don't intend to take up arms and "blow away" those who have been so bold as to attempt to force me to pay for this heinous crime of abortion (I don't even own a gun, for that matter). Instead, I intend to do something far more drastic: I intend to pray. And, I intend to vote against those men of evil intent who have so insidiously included abortion in something they have ironically called "health care".
So, I intend to take a stand - and I will, indeed, take that stand, come what may, for this is a matter of principle to me. I can only hope that it is a matter of principle to others. I can also only hope that others will have the courage and the decency to take a stand for these precious and most innocent of lives. I cannot imagine a nation that was founded on the principle that all men were created equal, and a nation that once fought against the Nazi Holocaust, can possibly continue on the reckless path that we find ourselves on in August of 2012.
Will you... stand? Or can you be bothered?
Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering towards the slaughter. If you say, "But we knew nothing about this", does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who guards your life know it? Will He not repay each person according to what he has done? Proverbs 24:11-12, NIV
