Fact Vs: Fiction
If the facts don’t fit the theory, change the facts. Albert Einstein
Professor Einstein gave the above quote, tongue-in-cheek, but it is an apt description of how many people approach religion. Facts come along to challenge their beliefs, so they change the facts to accommodate their beliefs. We see the same thing all the time in certain areas of scientific theory, some business practices, and in the vast majority of politics.
Why do people do that? I guess I can see why some scientists teach theory as fact - if it continues their funding. I know I can see why business men “fudge” the facts a bit - if it means more profit. And, I can even see how those who profess to serve humanity in the area of government could play fast and easy with the facts - if it furthers their political ambitions.
But what I cannot figure out is why anyone would ignore the facts when itcame to their eternal soul. I know why religious leaders might, should they be jaded enough to seek a paycheck from the gullible masses for preaching what they want to hear in the first place, but why would anyone seeking salvation want to exchange the facts of the Bible for theories of religion?
The fact is that if you believe in God and you believe that the Bible is His word, then the only rational thing to do is find out what His word says and then obey it. And, should we discover that some of His facts get in the way of our pre-conceived ideas, then we need to change.
Religion – true religion – cannot be about the pride of being perceived as right, nor can it be about upholding what our ancestors believed. True religion, pure and undefiled religion, should be about finding out what God’s will is and doing it. Anything short of that is either a lie or asuperstition, and neither of these vices will get us to Heaven.
Do you believe in God? Do you believe the Bible is His infallible, inspired word? If not, you need to make sure. If you do believe these things then you better get to reading. He will tell how to be saved and how He wants you to live… and He is on your side!

He has showed you, oh man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8, RSV
