Prayer in School
As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in public schools.

One of the things that I love the most about the part of the world that I live in is the godly nature of the schools. While it is true that a few people in positions of power have ruled that it would be unconstitutional to have public prayers in schools, it doesn't change for a moment the fact that the vast majority of our school teachers, administrators and parents pray for our kids on a regular basis.
Common sense dictates that our current ban on public prayer because of supposed constitutional constraints is ridiculous, due to the uncomfortable fact that the men who wrote the constitution took part in public prayers. The idea that the use of the Bible in schools was somehow unconstitutional is also without merit, since the Bible was used in schools before, during and after the writing of our constitution. But... I digress.
The fact is that prayer is part of the fabric of our lives, and the wise person will take advantage of it. Our kids are going back to school today and they will be met with a wide range of challenges. They will be encouraged by some who call themselves friends to cheat on homework and tests. They will be tempted to attend the Friday night parties. They will be told, sometimes by the very people we have entrusted their character to, that sex outside of marriage is okay, and the temptation will be great. They will be faced with bullying and loneliness and peer pressure and a thousand other things that are part of school and growing up.
They need our prayers!
The other side of their school day is this: They will be back with good friends, and will make new good friends this year. They will be surrounded by teachers and administrators who are genuinely concerned - not only about their academic success, but about their character as well. As in all things, they will have choices. They can choose between success and failure, between good character and bad, between good and evil. May we ever keep they and their teachers in our prayers, and my we teach them to do the same. If we will do those simple things, then prayer will never be removed from our schools during our lifetime.
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
