Name Your Own Price

There's nothing like a custom fit.

Old Proverb

Imagine going to your local McDonald's for a Happy Meal. The reader board gives the price as $5, but you give the cashier a buck. He looks at you funny and tells you that the price is $5, to which you reply: "That's your opinion. I thinks it's worth a dollar and that's all you're getting." Do you think you'll get your meal?

Or picture going into your local Cadillac dealer and asking the price of this year's model. He quotes you a price of $50,000 firm. You tell him, "I don't believe the same way you do. I'll give you a buck." Do you really believe that you're driving off the lot in the car?

Now imagine that you receive a visit from an IRS agent, who tells you that you owe $2 million in back taxes. Further, you have thirty days to pay or you'll go to prison. You reply, "Different people can come up with different amounts when figuring their taxes. I'll give you a buck and we'll call it even." What do you think the odds are that they will accept your terms?

Or... imagine this. You read God's word on what He has to say about the salvation of your eternal soul. You decide that His conditions aren't fair, or that they are not clear enough, or that the terms are simply unacceptable. You feel that the Bible is just His opinion and that your opinion is just as good - indeed, your opinion is better. So, you offer Him a deal: Salvation on your terms.

Now consider this: If this approach won't work for your taxes, your new car or even today's lunch, what makes us think that it will work when we approach the Creator of the universe with our terms of salvation? The fact is that God gives us His grace and Christ has given His very life as payment for our sins, but Their terms of salvation are non-negotiable - regardless of our personal opinions. And, when you think about it, it's still the best deal in the history of the world.

You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.
