Letting God Do His Part
For every ailment under the sun, there is a remedy, or there is none; if there be one, try to find it; if there be none, never mind it. Mother Goose
Isn't it fascinating how many things we worry about that we cannot change? We are sometimes like Piglet of Winnie the Pooh fame whose greatest fear was that his greatest fear would someday come true. What a waste!
The fact is that there are just some things that are out of our control. That's okay because understanding this truth is one of the first steps in learning to trust in God. David was not worried about Goliath, even though from a physical standpoint, a fight with him was one he could not win. Goliath was bigger, he was more experienced, and he had no visible weaknesses. However, this did not stop David - he just gathered five stones and trusted God to handle the rest. And he won the unwinnable fight.
That is exactly how we need to approach the things that are too big for us. We should simply prepare as best we can and then trust God to correctly handle the rest. If we are living the way that God requires, He will handle the things that are out of our control. This may seem a simple concept, but it is one of the most freeing truths in our lives: God only expects us to handle the things that are possible. Anything else that He wants done, He will do.
So, what ailments under the sun have you been fretting over? Is it your health? Our government? The national economy? The general state of the world? Then relax - all you have to do is gather your five stones and be prepared to use them when the situation calls for it. Anything else that God wants handled will be perfectly handled by Him. So, trust Him!
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Luke 12:25-26, NIV
So do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?" For the pagans run after all these things and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:30-33, NIV
