What Are You Going to Do ABout It?

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteousdo?

Psalms 11:3, KJV

It has been said in recent years that we live in a "Post-Christian" world. This is sad enough, but many who have made this observation are actually pleased with the idea, as if Christianity had some how retarded the progress that they desired. Maybe it has, for the wicked have always chaffed under the burden of any rule that they did not come up with themselves.

I believe that we do in fact live in an era that is in danger of being defined as post-Christian, and I believe that this fact should sadden the righteous. Perhaps in America we could just as easily say that we live in a post-constitutional era, just as in much of the church we could honestly say that we live in a post-Biblical era. It is as if the rails have come off in front of a speeding train, and we are all waiting for that train to hit the torn up tracks for a wreck of epic proportions.

I believe that I am not the only one who feels this way. It is likely that if you are still reading this article that you may have had some of the same concerns. We are patriots and we love this country, but we do not love the direction it has taken in recent years. Those of us who profess Jesus as Lord cannot help but be concerned with the direction of the church in modern times. It has become a watered down version of the body of Christ to the point that Christ is no longer the head among many who claim Him as their Sovereign.

So, what can we do?

Many are convinced that if we could just elect the right leaders for our nation that things would get back to the way they once were. Many in the church are equally convinced that getting the right preacher would solve all of the church's modern day woes. While it is true that doing these simple (though not so easy) things would make a difference, it is not enough. For, we must understand, the problems of the world and of the church have one common ingredient: Men and women have set their hopes on a shaky foundation.

One of the reasons I have felt so compelled to leave the every day demands of being a Gospel preacher for a local congregation and start focusing on writing daily articles to a broader audience, is that I am convinced that the church and the nation have been damaged in recent years because we as individuals have lost our foundation. What is that foundation? It is not a "what" but a "Who".

The only foundation that will work is Jesus Christ our Lord - the Son of God! And the only way that we can find out how to ensure that He is our foundation is through the holy Word of God. In short, you are going to have to not only read that Word, but you are then going to have to do what it says. But if you are unwilling to do so, then you are going to have to just sit to the side and watch this speeding train derail, because a train cannot run on torn up tracks, and a nation cannot function in a post-Christian era.

Again, the question arises: What can we do? We can return to God! This has to be done individually before it can be done collectively. If you want the nation to change, the church must change, and if you want a positive change in the church, the individuals that make up the church are going to have to change first.

A final thought: This will be hard, but it is required all the same. Further, once you begin to place your life squarely upon Jesus Christ your Savior and upon our Holy Father, your life will immediately begin to change for the better. Then you can influence your family and friends. Then this collection of the righteous will both demand and make the changes required for a strong church that has the Father and the Son at its head. Then something can be done about the sorry state of our nation and this wicked world we live in. Understand that failure cannot be an option for you because such a defeat will not only result in the loss of your eternal soul, but in countless other souls whom you have the God-given charge to assist on their way to Heaven.

The choice is yours. You can begin to restore the foundation of your life or you can let it crumble. Do something!

By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
