If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.
Thoreau
Have you ever thought how important the ability to dream is? I’m not talking about the dreams we have while sleeping, or even the day dreams that many seem to have as they “sleepwalk” through life. Rather, I am talking about that rare ability to plan big plans while seeing the possibility that the future holds for those who dare to dream.
It’s a bit sad when you consider how much of our lives are spent just treading water. We get up in the morning, grab a bite to eat, and start putting out the hottest fire. Our life controls us rather than the other way around and we sometimes feel that life is somehow passing us by.
This is where having dreams are so important. Instead of just reacting to the events of life, we plan. We develop goals and we commit them to God and then we advance confidently in the direction of those dreams.
And, by doing so, life becomes worth living. It’s not that there won’t be a million different things to pop up and alter our carefully laid plans - for they will. It’s just that those who are undeterred by obstacles will eventually achieve far more than they could ever hope for.
After all, if you reach for the stars and only reach the moon, you’ve still done something quite remarkable with your life.
So, go ahead and dream big dreams - but make sure that you include the Lord in those plans. If you will do so, you just might look back some day on a life that was very much worth living, while at the same time looking forward to an eternity that will be greater, still.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.
